Global Water Security Issues – Management and techniques for reliable groundwater access

28 June - 13:00 (CET)

IWRA is hosting a webinar focused on the role of sound groundwater resources management and governance in achieving water security. The theme of this webinar will be management and techniques for reliable groundwater access.

Groundwater is an essential water resource globally but one that is more difficult than surface water to quantify and assess. This webinar will help the audience learn from case studies on options for assessing and managing groundwater resources in three regions facing water supply challenges.

This webinar will feature presentations by authors of studies that are documented in the third issue of the i-WSSM UNESCO Global Water Security Issues series. Presentations will cover case studies from small islands to national spatial scales in Asia and Australia.

Topics include:

  • The Golden Gift of Groundwater in Australia’s Murray-Darling Basin
  • Drivers of Groundwater Salinity and Potential for Freshwater Abstraction on a Semi-Arid Coral-limestone Island in Sri Lanka
  • Study on Zones Classification, Management, and Control Methods Based on Groundwater Functions in China

Speakers:

  • Seo Hyung Choi, Programme Specialist, i-WSSM UNESCO
  • David Adamson, Center for Global Food and Resources, The University of Adelaide, Australia
  • Simon G. Craig, Institute of Water Education, Delft
